Superintendent welcome message to the Bulldog Nation!
Welcome to Fontes & Geary Stadium!
We are so excited for this new football season to begin at Le Grand Union High School! This year, the kickoff to the season also affords us the chance to update everyone on renovation plans for our football stadium.
We're happy to announce that at our August board meeting, the LGUHS Board of Trustees approved CT Brayton out of Escalon as the contractor who will oversee construction of a new 1074-seat stadium, new press box and ADA-compliant upgrades to the parking lot and grounds.
We are in the process of clearing some projects from decades ago that were never officially closed out with the State of California. Doing the research, we found the district had used a contractor who has since passed away. It's not as random as it sounds. Our contractor says we're one of over 1,000 cases facing the same issue (contractors no longer operating or no longer living).
We're happy to finally know that once we've cleared that red tape, we'll be able to gain the necessary approval and break ground. The delay pushed the project back so that construction will begin, not this month as we had hoped, but after the New Year. The new stadium should be ready in time for the 2016 season.
In the meantime, we have moved as many bleachers as we could onto the berm for our visitors. We encourage visiting fans to bring extra chairs to make up for the seating shortfall. You're also welcome to join us on the home side! We encourage everyone to call the high school (209-389-9400) if you have any questions about this project or anything related to the June 2014 bond, which is funding this venture.
Also, thank you to all of Bulldog Nation for the support you have shown over the 12 years of my tenure. During that time, we've planned, labored through issues and secured the funds to give The Fontes & Geary Stadium, Bulldog Gymnasium, the new AG. Barn, our bus barn and other areas of LGHS, the renovations and upgrades our students and community deserve.
Thank you, everyone, for your patience and understanding. The 2015-16 academic year is the 106th at LGHS. Here's to knowing the best is yet to come.
